Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis (a.k.a. Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis) is a types of Arthritis that occurs in children under the age of 16. In this disease children feel pain, swelling and stiffness in their joints. If treated at an early stage, this disease can be controlled whoever if ignored it can last for lifetime and becomes more severe as times goes on.

Like Rheumatoid Arthritis , Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis is also an autoimmune deficiency system. In this disease, immune system of our body become overactive and attacks its own cells and tissues around joints.

If the symptoms of Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis are caught at an early stage, proper treatment can be carried out. This disease may hinder the growth of children and hence it is important that it is cured before it gets worse.

Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis rarely leads to a form of eye inflammation called uveitis. It must be treated at the very start as it can lead to cataract and blindness.

Symptoms of Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis includes:

  • Pain in the joints like ankle, wrist, knee
  • Inflammation in the joints
  • Swelling
  • Rashes
  • Children Limps especially early in the morning
  • Back pain
  • Fever

Types of Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis:

  • Oligoarticular Arthritis: affects four or less joints of the body. Affected joints are one side of the body
  • Polyarticular Arthritis: affects five or more joints of the body.
  • Systemic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis: In this type fever and rashes come and go very quickly.

Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis treatment aims at calming down the over active immune system and at the same time reduce the pain and inflammation. Ayurvedic treatment involves oil massages of the whole body or of the affected area by herbal oils like Almond oil, coconut oil, mustard oil, etc. Panchakarma therapies like Virechana therapy and Vasti therapy are carried out to remove the toxin from the body and in turn calm the immune system.

Physical exercises like walking, swimming, aerobics, etc are advised by the doctors. In Ayurveda, there are special Yoga Asanas that are specifically structured to treat this disease.

Herbal medicines extracted from herbs and medicinal plants are given by Vaidya after examining the patient.

Diet also plays an important role for curing this disease. Ayurveda advises a balanced diet rich of Vitamins, minerals and proteins. However junk food, oily food, sweets, etc that might trigger the disease even further should be avoided.
