Symptoms of Arthritis


Arthritis is a condition where joints of the body get damaged and pain is felt in the joints of knees, hips, hands, etc. Though there are over 100 different forms of Arthritis the symptoms of all arthritis include pain in joints, joint stiffness and swelling.

Articular Cartilage allows the end of two bones to rub and move on each other easily. But when this starts to wear out joints becomes painful and stiff. This process of wearing out of Cartilage over joints is called as Arthritis.

Symptoms of Arthritis:

  • Joint Pain
  • Joint Stiffness
  • Problem in walking
  • Swelling around Joints

Most common types of Arthritis are:

  1. Osteoarthritis
  2. Rheumatoid Arthritis
  3. Psoriatic Arthritis
  4. Septic Arthritis
  5. Gout and pseudo-gout

Arthritis can lead to other diseases like Psoriatic arthritis, Reactive arthritis, Ehlers-Danlos, Syndrome, Haemochromatosis, Hepatitis, Lyme disease, etc.

Arthritis can be caused by injury, infection, excessive weight gain and an autoimmune disease.

Osteoarthritis the most common types of Arthritis is mainly seen in people of old age but it may also be caused by injury. Weight gain can be another factor. As the age progresses the cartilage present in the joints wears off and eventually causing the two opposing bones to erode into each other.

Rheumatoid Arthritis can occur to any individual. In this type, the immune system of the body affects the tissues present in the joints.

Gout is caused by accumulation of uric acid crystals in the joint while accumulation of rhomboid crystals of calcium pyrophosphate causes pseudo-gout. It should be treated at an early stage as it becomes more painful with time.

Arthritis treatment provided at the Ayurvedic treatment center of Delhi includes change in diet, Ayurvedic medicines, oil massages, Panchakarma treatment and Yoga. In Yoga exercises and oil massages are considered the most important as it involves movement of the affected area. The arthritis patient must not involve in the treatment by himself/herself.

Sesame oil, Castor oil, etc mixed with Ayurvedic herbs are used to provide oil massages to the whole body especially in the joints area. Then the patient is allowed to rest for some times. The oils and herbs enter the skin and reach the joint area and spread their affects.

Fruits like apples, oranges, grapes and papaya, herbs like cumin, coriander, ginger, asafetida, garlic, and turmeric must be included in the diet.
