What is Arthritis?


Arthritis is a disease that causes pain in the joints of the body like knee, wrist, elbow, toe, neck, shoulder and spine. It is caused due to deterioration in the cartilage that acts as a lubricant between two bones. As the cartilage deteriorates the bones start rubbing each other and result in inflammation pain and stiffness in joints.

Cartilage is important for smooth movement of joints. They are a gel like substance that help when two bones rubs each other. But when this cartilage is affected for one reason or the other, the two bones rub against each other and this causes pain and inflammation.

Symptoms of Arthritis:

Symptoms of Arthritis vary according to the type of disease. But few of the symptoms are common like:

  • Inflammation in joints
  • Pain in Joints
  • Swelling
  • Stiffness in joints
  • Problem in walking
  • Fever

In some types of Arthritis the tissues and muscles surrounding the joints gets affected. Like in Rheumatoid Arthritis , immune system of the body becomes overactive and starts affecting the tissues and muscles of the joints and than the cartilage.

Cause of Arthritis:

Studies are still going on for the cause behind many types of Arthritis. There are no exact proofs of what triggers the Arthritis disease but some few of the reasons are:

Treatment of Arthritis:

For many types of Arthritis a complete cure is not available in any form of medicine treatment. Studies are still going on in this field.
