Ayurvedic Treatment for Conjunctivitis

Conjunctivitis is the most common problem of eyes being faced by us. In this, the white part of eye becomes pink or red with some puffiness in the eyelid. The major cause of conjunctivitis is the bacteria or virus but can also spread from person to person through direct contact, overcrowding, dirty surroundings and unhealthy living conditions.

Symptoms of Conjunctivitis

  • There is an inflammation in the eyeball and underside of the eyelids.
  • At first, the eyes become red or pink with itching in later stage.
  • Conjunctivitis caused by viruses includes a watery discharge in the eye and an itchy feeling.
  • Other symptoms also include blurring of vision due to the pus formation in the eye. This pus makes the eyelashes stick together.
  • There is also pain when you apply pressure on your body.

Ayurvedic Treatment for Conjunctivitis:

  • Juices of some vegetables, like carrots and spinach, are very helpful in conjunctivitis. The juice made by the combination of these two vegetables has proved very effective.
  • Juice of the Indian gooseberry along with honey, is very effective in conjunctivitis. A cup of this juice should be taken mixed with two teaspoons of honey twice daily for the treatment of this disease.
  • The patient should consume food rich in vitamin A and B2. Foods rich in vitamin A are milk, butter, carrots, pumpkin, green leafy vegetables, tomatoes, mangoes, and papaya. Foods rich in vitamin B2 are green leafy vegetables, milk, almonds, citrus fruits, bananas, and tomatoes.
  • A decoction of dried coriander is excellent for eyewash in conjunctivitis. It is said to relieve burning and reduces pain and swelling.
  • Keep wiping your eyes with a clean cotton pad rinsed with warm water. This helps in avoiding the formation of crusts on the eye. It is very important to keep the eyes clean to fasten the healing time.

Conjunctivitis is an infectious disease and you should wash your clothes separately to avoid the spreading of this disease to other family members. You should your hands each time you touch your eye to avoid further infection. Thus, by doing some common practices and using ayurvedic treatment for Conjunctivitis, we can treat conjunctivitis.
