Ayurvedic Treatment of Glaucoma

Glaucoma is one of the most common diseases of eye in which there is an increased pressure inside the eyes. This can lead to serious problems of optic nerve that can even cause blindness. So, it is very important to detect the disease in its early stage in order to treat it. There is a continuous flow of fluid between the iris and cornea of the eyes in both in and out direction. In case of glaucoma the aqueous humor or fluid is blocked inside the eyes and doesn?t flow out due to increased pressure, which finally leads to damages of optic nerve.

There are mainly two types of glaucoma, which are most prevalent:

  • Open-angle glaucoma: This is the most common type of glaucoma in which the pressure starts increasing on the eyes with time. This pressure pushes the optic nerve and the retina at the back of the eye. This is generally hereditary in nature and likely to cause if your parents or grand parents are suffering from this. There is no pain in open angle glaucoma and damages the vision slowly.
  • Closed-angle glaucoma: This is caused due to blockage of fluid in the eyes, as they are not allowed to exit. This leads to sudden rise in the pressure within the eyes, which is extremely painful. This can start from one eye in the beginning and can attack the second eye too. Use of certain eye drops and some medications may also cause closed-angle glaucoma.
