Meditation is a term derived from a Latin word 'meditation' that means 'to think'. Thus, mediation refers to any internal practice done by an individual in order to induce a sense of internal consciousness within him. In ancient scriptures of India, meditation has been described as 'dhyana', which means 'to concentrate'. Meditation is not at all a new concept. The origin of meditation is still not exactly known but earlier an individual practiced it in order to connect his inner self with god. People use different types of meditation techniques for meditation but the ultimate goal is the same for all i.e. controlling the thoughts to a meaningful direction.

Meditation is not a complex process to practice and can be done by every individual. To begin with, all you need is a positive attitude and a serene environment. It can be practiced at any calm and undisturbed place. Certain things, which should be kept in mind while starting meditation, are, have a shower and wear light and clean clothes. Don't each too much before meditation as it makes you lethargic. Now sit still and straight and try to relax your body by simple breathing exercise. This will help you to control the flood of thoughts coming in your mind. Now, in the next step try to concentrate on certain thing or you can say think on only one object at a time. This helps in getting our mind distracted and develops a one-point focus. Though, this is not possible at the first day but can be achieved by regular practice. The best way to focus is, start with concentrating on some small object or point such as a candle flame or a needle. Once you are successful with this practice, you can move ahead with concentrating on your thoughts.

At the present result oriented world where people are not getting time even to spend with their family and are always stressed. Meditation has proved to be a most successful technique to attain the inner peace and calmness. The benefits of meditation are countless but the major area of benefits can be listed as:

  • Meditation teaches us to keep the worries and tensions away and hence, reduces stress which helps us to relax our mind and also in effective decision-making.
  • By keeping the stress level low, we can lower the probability of heart disorders. Meditation helps to maintain a balance between the body and the mind.
  • Human being is considered as the most intelligent creature of earth and are thought to have conquered all things but they become the prey of their own negative thoughts. Meditation helps you to control your own thoughts and regulate your thinking.
  • Today when we are burdened with lots of work we get irritated very easily but regular practice of meditation helps us to detach ourselves from irritating thoughts.
  • Meditation helps us to get the inner peace and explore the real happiness of life. Our mind is continuously attacked by several negative thoughts but practicing meditation helps us to fight those negative thoughts and develop a positive thinking.
  • Moreover, meditation makes our mind more creative by eliminating the destructive thoughts of mind.

The results of meditation are not superficial; all it requires is a consistency. Though, it is not possible to attain all the desired results in few attempts but can certainly be attained it done regularly. Meditating yourself can only experience the real benefits of meditation.
