An Ayurvedic approach to Hypertension

Hypertension is a common problem prevailing all over the word today leading disability and death. A state of Hypertension may result in problems like heart attacks, strokes, kidney failures and much more Ayurveda suggests a number of measures to avoid the state of hypertension in an effective an efficient way in order to live a healthy life. Due to hectic life style and busy schedule hypertension is becoming common to people of all strata today. In ayurveda, hypertension is considered to be a result of vitiation in vata dosha. However it may be a result of Smoking, excessive intake of intoxicants, obesity, metabolic disorders, excessive consumption of fast food and table salt.

The major symptoms of hypertension are:

  • Severe pain at the back of the head and neck as soon as you wake up in the morning.
  • Dizziness
  • Palpitations
  • Pain in Heart
  • Frequent urge of urination
  • Nervous tension
  • Fatigue
  • Breathing difficulty

Ayurveda suggests a healthy diet in order to avoid hypertension. In addition to that, a proper nutrition, exercise, breathing exercises (Pranayama), yoga, meditation and behavioral modification along with various herbs and minerals has been described in ayurveda in order to avoid hypertension. An ayurvedic diet may include:

  • Less consumption of protein rich food.
  • Avoid non-vegetarian food such as meat and egg.
  • Vegetables like Garlic, lemon and parsley should be included in your daily diet.
  • Fruits like Indian Gooseberry, Grape fruit and watermelon are highly beneficial.
  • Avoid smoking as it increases the blood pressure of the body.
  • Consume low fat diet as fat has high cholesterol content, which leads to obesity and blockage of arteries which is a major cause of hypertension.

Moreover, by following a proper and healthy lifestyle you can avoid and fight hypertension very effectively. A proper exercise should be adopted in which has been mentioned as 'Achara Rasayana' in ayurveda is quite beneficial. Develop a sense of love and affection that helps you to drop your blood pressure. Stop lying and try to speak truth that helps you in mental and spiritual development.

In addition to that, laughter therapy, excercise, yoga nad meditaion has been highly recommended in ayurveda to keep your mind free from any kind of stress that helps in avoiding a state of hypertension without the use of any medicines in a natural way.
