For a very long period, these indigenous medicines were ignored but in recent years the government has paid attention. The recently founded department of AYUSH is working for growth of these Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH). Every system of medicine has a number of beneficiaries and followers.
Ayurveda, the Indian system of medicine has a history of more than 5000 years. Rather than dealing with the symptoms, it believes in boosting the symptoms so that it can fight the disease. In addition to this, there is Yoga founded by great saints and sages. This system founded by Maharshi Patanjali helps improves inherent powers in a balanced manner besides helping in self-realization.
The system of Indian medicine is known for great diversity. And naturopathy adds to this diversity. This system believes in drugless healing. This system has it own well-founded principles and philosophy. One can find several mentions of naturopathy in holy books.
Although the system of Unani was introduced to India by Arabs and Persians but it has gained ground in India as well. Now India has become one of the best places for having Unani treatment.
Apart from these, one can also find medical streams like Homeopathy, Siddha and SOWA- RIGPA that gives variety to Indian system of Medicine.
